The public response to this meeting is growing. It came about in reaction to the spate of random demolitions taking place on the Near East Side.
For example, Frank’s Place which the City listed as one of the stops on a walking tour of historic Long Street has just been knocked down.
The historic Edna Building is in danger of going next if some measure is not taken to secure the roof. John Beard has already announced publicly that he will be demolishing the Camel Bell which is eligible for the National Register. There was a move to prohibit more demolitions on Broad Street but that seems to have lost steam.
We need to dialogue with you our elected officials to put these recent activities in the context of your view of the future of the Near East Side. You will asked to speak on your view prior to any Q and A.
Looking forward to seeing you there.

The Near East Area Plan and The King Lincoln District Plan were worthy accomplishments of we Near East Side neighborhoods working with the City of Columbus. Unfortunantly people in the Department of Development whose names we know only use the plans or say they use the plans to justify their actions for what they want to have happen.Other times these same people and others receiving City monies find why the plans are lacking and negate the plans significance.Jonathan Beard points out the fallacies of the Near East Area Plan to justify his wish to demolish the Camel Bell Building on E. Main St Glaven Feher Architects at the last NEAC General Meeting claimed they used the Near East Area Plan in developing the Monroe Cluster site. But as I showed NEAC thru actual written sections of that very Near East Area Plan it is clear they did not follow the plan.
Commissioners please read the plan.
I as a resident of NEAC District 1 know these plans.
Regarding demolitions on E. Long St. it is apparant that these churches we know who they are , get good information from reliable sources to circumvent the very process that the City of Columbus helped us on the Near East Side put in place.
Has the City of Columbus put the Near East Side in a never win position.
Some people would call this Machivellian.
